WATER IN SKINCARE

WATER, a crucial part of skin care and the production of skin care products

As a result of a crippling drought, Water is the word on everyone’s lips here in Cape Town. We have all become mindful of our water usage and all responsible citizens are doing what they can to conserve this precious resource. Some people are even going to extraordinary lengths to save every drop possible.

This is where JINJA Skin Care stands out from the crowd.

Interestingly, water isn’t only an issue in South Africa but globally and particularly in Europe, water is coming under the spotlight and is considered a luxury in a world where sustainability is becoming more and more important. This means that as a manufacturer JINJA needs to ensure that sustainable methods are used in the production and formulation process of our products. The client too needs to be educated to use less water producing products, or products that require less water in their daily regime without compromising on the quality of care that their skin is getting.

How does JINJA conserve water?

Using less water also means using less preservatives which in itself is an advantage. This also means that the products are more concentrated with a lower filler material content.

With a water content of just 47%, Hibiscus and Pomegranate Gel Cleanser is our most water dense product. Even our toner/spritzer doesn’t contain any water but mostly Rose Hydrosol (a byproduct of the distillation process) Witchhazel (a tincture) and some humectants (moisturizing agents)

Our Oils, Serums and Balms are packed with the goodness that comes from specialized plant carrier oils and the essential oils of many and varied flowers, grasses, herbs and trees, giving your skin all the nutrition that it requires. Not a drop of water in sight.

Even the Velvet Touch Day Cream and the Regenerative Night Cream are nutrient dense, rich creams which have less than 40% water in them. The only reason they have any water at all is to act as a forum for water soluble ingredients which we feel that the skin will benefit from.

After manufacture, the water used for cleanup and sterilization is recycled to flush toilets or water plants.

Cleansing our facial skin needs little and in some cases no water. This can be achieved by simply putting a few drops of oil onto a warm, damp cotton wool round and wiping off grease and makeup at the end of the day. Afterwards, a brief wash using Hibiscus and Pomegranate Gel Cleanser will leave your skin feeling soft and deeply cleansed.

As for the rest of your body, Orange Blossom Face and Body Wash is a gentle cleanser suitable for the whole family. It also contains low amounts of water and biodegradable ingredients that are less harsh than its chemical counterparts.

It is time for all of us to re-evaluate how we think about our water usage and take action to conserve it. Using Water conscious face and body products is a good place to start without compromising the quality and care of your precious skin.
